‘More than 5,500 random act’s of kindness makes the world a better place’, has never been more accurate, timely and relevant than today. Random acts of kindness are something customers of Fish ’n’ Fritz in Weymouth, have taken to heart and been practising over the last five years. Fish ’n’ Fritz Suspended Coffee’ scheme, an initiative where customers can pay for a coffee, tea or maybe even some food for a person in need has been one of the routes of success to help the homeless in need.
Paul says “We were amazed when we totalled up the number of hot drinks and food we have given away over the last 5 years, 5,500 random acts of kindness is a lot. Paul tells us more about how it works “The scheme is very straightforward. When you come in, if you want to pay for an additional coffee, we note that down. Then if someone in need comes in and asks for a ‘Suspended Coffee’, we will check the balance and give them one from the ‘suspended’ account.”
In addition to their ‘Suspended Coffee’ scheme, Fish ’n’ Fritz have continued to raise money for the local homeless charity ‘Bus Shelter Dorset’. This year they have raised £750 for the charity by donating £1 from every ‘Scampi & Chips’ served in the restaurant.
Emily McCarron from The Bus Shelter Dorset says “Getting Paul’s phone call was a lovely surprise. We are very grateful for all of Fish ’n’ Fritz fundraising efforts and the support we have received from the local community. Paul and his customers have made a tremendous difference to the 40 people we have helped over the last 2 years.”
